Israel Celebrates its 60th Anniversary

Baker

On May 7, 2008, Israel celebrated the 60th anniversary of its independence at a thrilling celebration at the National Gallery of Canada.

The event was attended by 10 senior Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Members of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures, and distinguished guests.

In a short time, Israel has proved itself to be a bastion of inventiveness, a place where academia and brilliant minds flourish, where global problems are debated and resolved and a modern democracy that we can all be proud of.

One can only wonder what it will be possible to accomplish in the next 60 years.

Save a Child's Heart Exhibition in Ottawa

Save a Child

The Israeli Embassy was happy to bring greater exposure to the Israeli Organization, Save a Child's Heart, with an event at the National Press Club in late May.

Save a Child's Heart continues to provide hope to children from around the world with otherwise debilitating heart conditions, through the option of surgery and training provided to foreign doctors by Israeli medical professionals.

The event featured a photography exhibition that vividly captured the incredible work done by this organization; work that continues to save the lives of children, worldwide.

Israel Participates in the 2008 Canadian Tulip Festival

tulipsbooth
As Israel celebrates the 60th anniversary of its independence this year, the Israeli Embassy in Ottawa was excited to present its booth at the International Pavilion of the 2008 Tulip Festival.

The
Israel booth at the International Pavilion showcased the things that are best about Israel; its arts and culture; its keen attention to detail and innovation; the raw beauty and storied history which makes it one of the holiest places for all of the world's major religions; and Israeli wine to delight the palate and compliment the experience perfectly.

Israel Pays Tribute to its Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terror

half-mastOn May 7th, Israel marked Yom Hazikaron, the national day of memorial for fallen soldiers and victims of terror.

This somber day of remembrance was marked in Ottawa by a lowering of Israeli flags to half-mast and a moving commemorative ceremony at the Soloway Jewish Community Centre.

On this day we remember the countless people who have given their lives fighting for ideals we can all believe in, and the tragic deaths that are attributable to senseless acts of terror.

Ottawa Marks Holocaust Memorial Day

Yom Hashoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, was marked in two separate ceremonies in early May of this year: at the Soloway JCC and the following day on Parliament Hill.

A crowd of close to 1000 people were addressed by Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs and all of the remaining Federal Political Party Leaders.

Ambassador Baker reminded us that Holocaust Remembrance is imperative, lest history repeat itself.
